The seventh step in making cornstarch
Centrifugal separation and drying
The starch milk from the spin separator contains 78% moisture and can be sent directly to the starch sugar plant if the starch plant is integrated with the starch sugar plant. Dewatering and drying of the starch milk is not necessary. However, the starch milk from the washing drum contains water separation and must be dewatered.
The starch milk is dewatered in a centrifugal separator to obtain a wet starch with 45% moisture, which can also be used as finished product. For transportation and storage, it is better to dry the starch to reduce the moisture content to 12% of the equilibrium moisture. Then it is shipped as finished dry starch.
In order to ensure a uniform fineness of the finished product, it is sometimes necessary to finish the finished product. The starch is first sieved to the required fineness, and the sieved material is sent to the pulverizer for crushing, and then sieved again to make the product all to the required fineness.
