Properties and uses of modified starch

On the basis of the inherent characteristics of natural starch, in order to improve the performance of starch and expand its application range, physical, chemical or enzymatic treatment is used to introduce new functional groups on starch molecules or change the size of starch molecules and the properties of starch granules. Thereby changing the natural characteristics of starch (such as: gelatinization temperature, thermal viscosity and its stability, freeze-thaw stability, gel force, film-forming property, transparency, etc.),
making it more suitable for certain application requirements. This kind of starch that has undergone secondary processing and changed its properties is collectively referred to as modified starch.
use:
Use 1. In the paper industry, modified starch is the main auxiliary material, used for surface sizing and coating, and also used as an internal additive and adhesive between cardboard layers to increase the strength, smoothness, stiffness and wear resistance of paper. Good physical and surface properties of paper and paperboard.
Use 2. In the textile industry, modified starch is used in warp yarn sizing, printing and dyeing, finishing processing and non-woven composite products, which can obtain various comprehensive feelings such as smooth, stiff, thick and plump, and greatly improve the hand feeling. Textile size used to be mainly chemical size, which was gradually replaced by modified starch due to environmental pollution.
Use 3. In the food industry, modified starches are used more and more widely. At present, there are more than 100 edible modified starches as thickeners, stabilizers, water-retaining agents, gelling agents, adhesives, anti-sticking agents, and glazing agents. , puffing agent, etc., used in canned food, meat products, dairy products, candy, cakes, instant noodles, condiments, cold food, beverages and other food processing.
Use 4. In the aquatic feed industry, modified starch is mainly used as a feed binder for eel and water fish, and the expected amount is about 25% of the feed. In recent years, my country's annual consumption of aquatic feed is about 400,000 tons, and 100,000 tons of modified starch and pregelatinized starch are needed, of which about two-thirds rely on imports. The quality of pregelatinized starch produced from cassava starch is much better than that produced from corn starch, and cassava pregelatinized starch has strong market competitiveness.

Use 5. In the building materials industry, modified starch is mainly used as an adhesive for mortarless wall structure boards, interior wall decoration adhesives, and lightweight ceiling board adhesives. With the rise of new building materials, modified starch has been widely used in the building materials industry.
Use 6. In the petroleum industry, modified starch is mainly used as fluid loss reducer, fracturing fluid thickener, demulsifier, etc.
Use 7. In the pharmaceutical industry, modified starch can be used as diluent, absorbent, adhesive, wetting agent, disintegrating agent, etc. The annual consumption of disintegrants alone is 15,000 tons of modified starch. In addition, modified starch is widely used in clinical medicine.
In addition to the above-mentioned industrial sectors, the use of modified starch in foundry, ceramics, daily chemical industry, industrial wastewater treatment and other industries is also increasing, and the potential market is huge.
